Douze Degrés
Douze Degrés is a Paris-based design studio creating objects and installations that bring a new intensity to everyday gestures and moments. Research and experimentation are central to its practice, giving rise to new uses, new rituals and immersive experiences, each conceived as a story to be lived and shared.
As everyday life accelerates, and screens, automation and artificial intelligence take up more of our attention, Douze Degrés seeks to restore a physical and sensory relationship with the objects around us. Objects that bring gesture, time and attention back into daily life; that turn familiar uses into experiences and allow new rituals to emerge.
Narrative
Our relationship with everyday objects is also shaped by the stories they carry. At Douze Degrés, narrative and imagination are treated as part of the object itself: a story, technique, use, territory or reference can inform its design and give it meaning beyond function. The narrative continues through use, in the gestures the object prompts and in the relationship we form with it.
Research & Experimentation
Research and experimentation are central to the studio’s process. Each project begins without a predetermined answer, allowing intuition to be tested against materials, phenomena, techniques and use. What emerges can shift the project entirely, its scale, function or even its nature, leading to hybrid forms that sit between established typologies.
Light as a material
Light is one of the studio’s principal fields of research. Treated as a material in its own right—alive and constantly changing, it lies at the heart of the studio’s first collections, including FLARE. This ongoing exploration extends to the phenomena, objects and uses that shape how we perceive and inhabit the world.
Laying the Foundations
Douze Degrés was founded in December 2023 in a former cabinetmaker’s workshop near Fontainebleau, driven by a shared desire to design through making and experimentation. In 2024, two projects laid the foundations of the studio: an immersive installation for Cercle Music at the Jungfraujoch, 3,500 metres above sea level, followed by a monumental water fountain for Cercle Festival.
Defining a Language
After a year of research into optics and light, Douze Degrés unveiled FLARE, its first independently produced lighting collection. Presented in Milan, Paris, Brussels and Eindhoven, the collection established a distinct language for the studio.
A New Chapter
With a new studio and workshop in Paris, Douze Degrés continues to expand its collections and explore new fields of research. Its work now follows two complementary paths: developing collections of its own and collaborating with brands.
